ST JAMES' UNITED REFORMED CHURCH

Who We Are

What We

Our Mission is to know Christ and to make him known. Through study of scripture, revelation, reflection and growing as disciples we try to know Christ and through how we lead our lives, what we say and do, we hope to make him known to all in our lives as individuals and to the community in which we are situated. So what else do we believe today? We are constantly reforming the church and indeed ourselves. Worship has a set pattern although we believe this must be reformed for each generation, bringing new and exciting aspects to our worship. We work towards the unity of the church in purpose and as such work as are part of Churches Together in Buckhurst Hill in projects together. We work to help our fellow United Reformed Churches and as such we are part of the Forest Group of United Reformed Churches which also includes Chingford, Highams Park, Ray Lodge and Woodford Green UFC.

St James' United Reformed Church

Like most United Reformed Churches we are ecumenical in that we seek to work with other denominations in mission, study, prayer and worship when it is good to do so. Ecumenism is the heart of the URC as it was formed in 1972 in the merging of the Presbyterian Church and the Congregational Union of England. In 1981 it was reformed again when the Churches of Christ joined us and again in 2000 when the Scottish Congregationalists joined us. St James' was a Congregational Church and places an emphasis on the will of God being discerned through Church Meeting.
